Too bad this one’s wordless… I’m betting there’s a great story behind it.

Your pictures have made me realize there was a whole parallel universe operating along racial lines, and largely unknown by the dominant white society.

What a great image! I know there must be a lot of stories behind it and I hope it doesn’t come off the wrong way, but I simply love vintage b/w pics!

A very regal pic, is this school still around?

Thanks to everyone for dropping in! I’m so glad you enjoyed the photo. If I understand correctly, Lincoln School for Nurses was affiliated with Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, New York. The school was accredited by the New York State Board of Regents. While the school no longer exists, Lincoln Hospital still exists today. It is still located in the Bronx, too.

One of the women seated is Nella Larsen who would go on to fame & fortune as a writer during the Harlem Renaissance.

My Mom graduated from of this school in 1957. Every year they have a class reunion – it is a very moving experience for me.
